Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative is a remarkable environmental campaign aimed at combating climate change and promoting sustainable development. Launched in June 2019, the initiative has set an ambitious target of planting 20 billion seedlings within four years. By the end of the fourth year, Ethiopia had successfully planted 25 billion seedlings, thanks to the collective efforts of over 20 million citizens.

The initiative focuses on various aspects of environmental conservation, including agroforestry, forest sector development, urban greening, and integrated water and soil resources management. It aims to restore degraded landscapes, increase forest cover, enhance water resource availability, and improve food and nutrition security.

The Green Legacy Initiative is a testament to Ethiopia's commitment to a green and climate-resilient future, aligning with international commitments such as the Paris Climate Change Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
