Ethiopia is making strides towards building smart cities of the future with its nationwide initiative. The Ministry of Urban and Development has unveiled a comprehensive plan to transform 275 towns into smart cities by 2024/2025.This initiative aims to modernize urban services, improve living standards, and enhance sustainable development.
Key components of the smart city concept include modernizing office services, providing accessible and fast services, and implementing e-services. The initial phase will focus on 31 cities, including Addis Ababa, Adama, Bishoftu, Debre Birhan, Dessie, Jimma, Hawassa, and Bahir Dar
The long-term goal is to transform 2,500 towns into smart cities by 2026. By embracing technology and focusing on sustainable development, Ethiopia aims to create more livable, efficient, and vibrant urban environments for its residents.
